Success is the desired result, and one of the underlying factors on which it relies is the accomplishment of goals. When you achieve your goals, you feel successful, and when you don’t, you feel otherwise. This means that the ability to set goals and achieve them has been the leading distinction between success and failure.
Because of this, we are forced to ask why some people hit their targets better than others. The result shows that many people miss the game even at the point of setting the goal. If you have ever set a goal and found it almost impossible to achieve them, you are not alone. You only need to understand the right way to set goals, and that’s what you will be learning in this blog. We love the third strategy and believe you will too. So, enjoy your tour through another realm of knowledge that shows you the perfect way to set goals that you will achieve.
Concentrate on the ‘Master Goal’
When billionaire Warren Buffett and Bill Gates were asked about the secret of their success at dinner, they both gave the same answer, which was “focus”. This tells us that the ability to concentrate on one thing is the greatest secret to achievement. The first thing you want to do while setting your goal is to create what we call the master goal. Every individual has loads of dreams that come to mind from time to time. But human energy is not strong enough to keep up with it all at the time. So, the best way to go faster and conquer is to focus on one thing and execute till you crush the goal.
Here is how to leverage focus to set your goals the right way. Make a list of all the goals you want to achieve, then look at the one that you will choose if you are to fulfill only one of those dreams. That goal will be your master goal. When you focus on one goal, you become obsessed with it and accomplish it as fast as possible. Therefore, other goals will follow in no time.
Make a Plan
The next step high achievers take is to create a plan for their goal. They do this because they understand that goals without a plan are not in any way close to reality. The way to go with planning is to move your master goal and brainstorm what you need to do to move it from a goal to a reality. You will be surprised at the idea that will appear to you. Take this idea and arrange them in order of essentiality. That’s how you will execute them for success.
An excellent strategy to unleash your creativity and wake your brain to thinking is to ask a simple question. How can I achieve this goal? Put down everything that comes as an answer and structure it to make a solid plan that you can work on to get your goal completed.
Note down your goals the right way
Many people have different ways they put their goals on paper. Some use one word while others write it down in present or future tense. Among all these styles, we prefer the present tense, where you write as if you have already achieved the goal. This will put you in a position of accomplishment and success that you have to catch up with. Whenever humans are given an appointment to live up to, they do all their best to keep up. That’s the same psychology we recommend. So, instead of saying: I will become a doctor, Say, I am Dr Samson. Now you have the title, and you have to live up to it.
Add a time limit
It was usually said that the amount of time you give yourself to finish a task is what you will use. Give yourself thirty minutes to clean the house, and you will hurry up and stay committed to finishing it before thirty-minute elapses. Give yourself three days to do the same, and you will delay and procrastinate till the time is almost over. This is not a fault but natural human behaviour. If you want to reach your goals, you have to put a time frame on them. That will be your shield against procrastination and inefficiency. It’s important to know that this doesn’t mean you should set an unrealistic time frame. Access the goal you want to achieve and arrange your time a bit ahead of the average time needed to crush it. Once you put in the time, you can move on to the next strategy.
Act Quickly
The space between idea, goals and plan and execution draws the line between achievement and procrastination. Ideas are a gift that comes to everybody. But those who benefit from it are the fast action takers. When you give space between idea and execution, you are feeding your self-doubt, fear, excuses and other things that will stand in your way and cause you to suspend the realisation of the idea. Do you know what that means? Your dream just went into thin air and is gone forever. If you become successful, then you have to act quickly on your goals before they vanish.
Observe your obstacle
The limiting factors when it comes to taking action and getting things done are just too many. For some people, it’s their health, and for others, their procrastination and distraction. This is why self-assessment and understanding are very necessary. Just ask yourself; what are those things that can prevent me from achieving this goal? Let the replies have a space in your notebook and create a way to solve each of those problems. Maybe you don’t know; you are beating your opponent even before the game begins, which gives you a better chance of winning.
Avoid distraction
Distraction is the enemy of all goal achievement. All winners know that they must avoid distractions like a plague. Let’s give a little explanation. Distraction is that thing that draws you away from your main goal and objective. If your goal is to be the best programmer, watching football and playing games might be a distraction. You want to avoid anything that distracts you because, if you don’t, your goal will only be words. Avoiding distraction still boils down to asking a question whenever you want to do anything. Does this thing take me closer or away from my goal? The answer tells you whether to continue or turn your back.
Celebrate your little daily accomplishment
Human psychological discoveries show that one of the leading human desires is to feel important, recognized and praised by others. Some people are lucky to get this at a young age, and they prosper. But for others, the story is for another day. What’s more important is to know that you are now responsible for the task. So don’t take any achievement for granted. Instead, reward and celebrate yourself for the smallest task you have completed. It will cause hormones that will make you happy to be released, and you will be motivated to do more to become happier.
Complete every task you begin
It is so surprising and fascinating to observe human behaviour. After you overcome procrastination by getting started on a task, another completion problem shows up. The reality of this is not friendly because any task left uncompleted is still like a task never done. Success is the result of tasks completed. The more tasks you can start and complete, the more you achieve and the better an achiever you become. So, for every task required to accomplish the goal you begin, make it mandatory for yourself to finish it within the accredited time. When you train yourself this way, success is not an option for you. It’s a must.
In conclusion,
If everyone with a goal is meant to achieve them naturally, eighty percent of the world would be affluent. In real life, the reverse is the case. People set goals, but only a few achieve them. If you can apply what you have learnt in this blog, we are confident that it is only a matter of time before you join the community of high achievers who reach any goal that they set.
