What are those things that a minimalist should not have bought?
Some skincare items
Yes, everyone wants to make sure they look as young as possible. They want their skins and faces to glow with a youthful shine, and that is not far from reality. There are a lot of minimalistic skin care products in the market today. Yes, some of them are good, but most of them defeat the aim of minimalism. Some of these products give outcomes that do not last long enough, others are so expensive. A better solution would be using some natural products that are less expensive and can actually give you a good result.
Glass storage containers
In most kitchens and houses in the world today, people are trying to make everywhere look so perfect. What they fail to understand is that sometimes, the fact that someone looks perfect does not make it perfect. Glass storage containers are excellent examples. Imagine putting all your cereals, foods, spices, brushes, etc., in nice glass storage containers with nice little labels on them. It looks great, right? Well, take a minute to consider how much you could have saved if you did not need to buy those glass jars. You could have taken a more sustainable and money-saving option. We will discuss it shortly.
Do you buy pickles, tomato sauces, or those kinds of items? If yes, you will obviously notice that they come in jars. Do you get what we are driving at? A more sustainable and money-saving option would have been to reuse the jars, that is, after washing and disinfecting them. The labels could have been changed and then used to store other things.
Great clothes
It is a nice thing to have a beautiful collection of clothes. In fact, it is great to know that your dress sense and wardrobe are top-notch, but the fact is it should not be at a price. You do not need to sacrifice financial freedom and mental happiness just to make sure you maintain an aesthetic wardrobe. You do not need to purchase all these items to match because you might end up not wearing them or wearing them less often than you would have wanted to. This is because there will definitely be other designs and styles that might look better, and in little or no time if you are not a minimalist, you might want to purchase those newer items. It is always better to go for clothes that fit you will wear a lot. If you must buy those items, make sure it is in a minimalistic way.
Purchasing items out of uncertainty
There are a lot of items people buy not because they need them now but because of uncertainties. What if this? What if that? This is certainly not a good reason to buy anything, and the earlier we understand that the closer we are to achieving minimalism. Even some minimalists are guilty of this kind of buy. When we buy products because they are on sale, it falls into that same category. Asking the “what if” might make you feel you are saving money. In the long run, you would realize that you are actually not saving money.
Purchasing brand new items
If you are a minimalist, you should try to always reduce the amount of brand new items you buy. This is because these brand-new items cost the most and still give you almost the same level of satisfaction other used items may give. These used items reduce in value over time, so why not buy items that have already been reduced in cost? That way, you will be able to save a whole lot of money than you would have if you bought a new item. We are not saying you should not buy items you need or want; just be careful not to buy items that depreciate in value easily. Instead, buy the products that have depreciated in value but not in quality, and you will be good.
In conclusion, once you become a minimalist, there will be a lot of items you would regret that you bought. However, you are learning something new. So take out a piece of paper and a pen, and write out those things you feel you should not have bought as a minimalist, and use it to teach someone about minimalism today.
